Abstract : The combination of real and virtual worlds opens up many interesting applications of computer graphics technology. This work focus on virtual sets. We present a conceptual overview of the problem, which enables us to understand the techniques and identify current trends. The paper outlines our initial implementations and presents future plans. 1 Introduction The integration between real and virtual worlds offers interesting possibilities of applications in the near future. Currently, some of these applications have already appeared in the commercial market. We will discuss one of these applications in this paper: virtual sets. Virtual sets or Virtual studios are denominations given to the integrated use of computer generated elements with real actors and objects in a studio. Its main advantages are: more flexibility in changing the scene, risky scenes can be made safely, allowing the production of complex special effects and also provides economy in the production of sophistica...
