Biography & Interests

Didier Torny’s work examines private and public normative action relating to health, i.e. norms which attempt to impose human or animal health as a legitimate objective for business regulation. He bases his research on a comparative pragmatic approach (nutrition, food safety, animal health, safety of health products), analysing the argumentary and critical mechanisms at work in definitions and written texts on these norms, from the simplest of recommendations through to international agreements. He is especially interested in the question of emerging illnesses, both as a category of general action and as a series of pertinent examples through which to get to grips with the mechanisms used in collective risk management. He also conducts work on research evaluation, studying the making, use and critique of evaluation tools and norms.
